To understand the story a little history on how the filipinos have a culture of becoming domestic helps in singapore (primarily chinese colonies) needs to be understood. The film circles around an arrogant lady boss (not just in word but in action too where she dominates in her house including subjudicating her husband or kids viewpoints) and how she treats the domestic help. This brings a small twist on the history of current Maids sister story linked with this family.
Arrogant landlords treating their help with no respect will surely see a day of experiencing the same hate and anger on them. This is the one liner of the story..
This movie has taken the characterisation of the women in a strong / emotional and psychiatrically disturbed nature. The film has violence and some extreme action but the final message from the kid summarises the entire plot “Somebody needs help”.
Appreciable performances by Rohana Akhbar as domestic helper and Sue Tan as Mother. Its hard to do such strong role and end of it make viewers hate you for the role that you performed.
Screenplay/direction/cinematography are just a subtle spectators to the acting showcased by Sue Tan.
You can derive a moral out of the story or can watch as a learning for the practice of your next short film on action or horror subject. its a film with a purpose and message.
